Welcome

Hi !!! Hello!! and Welcome!!

The kitchen has been my favorite hangout ever since I was a child. Infact I think I was born with a spoon in my hand. I am no culinary expert and was never a big fan of cooking. The sole reason I spent time in the kitchen was because my mother spent time in the kitchen. I loved my mother as much as I loved the food she made. As she cooked, I would sit on the kitchen counter top beside the stove and engage in small talk only moving a few feet away when the mustard or cumin was going to sputter.

Coming to the part of the spoon. Yes! I always had a spoon or ladle in my hand. This was not to assist my mom in stirring as she prepared the food. The minute my mom finished cooking, the first thing I would do was put the ladle into to pan and get a spoonful of whatever my mom made. After it was sufficiently cool, I would taste it and exclaim it was delicious!!!

I had decided that I would definitely marry someone who could cook and settle down in life but my fate had other plans for me. As my hatred for cooking gave way to my passion for engineering, I was determined to earn a Doctoral Degree and left to Singapore. My first tryst with cooking was less than joyful. I forgot to turn off the stove and burnt ten dollars worth of vegetables. I almost gave up on trying to cook and started eating out. Unfortunately in Singapore the variety of Vegetarian food available is not great and I was stuck eating Parathas with Dhaal everyday. My room-mate was a wonderful cook who understood my difficulty and served me lovely South-Indian Sapadu whenever she could. This went on for a year and I had to move to a different locality. With this the Dhaal-Paratha series began for a second time. After a point of time the monotony started to wear me out and I longed to eat palatable food. However the glitch here was my new apartment had only a microwave.

As Necessity is the mother of Invention, I started to experiment with the meagre ingredients I had and soon had mastered the art of making palatable food! The only utensils I have include a few ladles, a couple of ceramic plates and bowls.Armed with these utensils, a knife and a microwave I spend about half an hour in total in the kitchen everyday and shop for groceries once a week. The joy of eating what you make is something that needs to be experienced.

This blog is dedicated to my Parents and Brother. Ma, I really wish I had learnt to cook properly from you before I came here. I really miss your food.

My sincere thanks to my buddies Divya Srikanth, Sahana Roopkumar and Mahalakshmi Prabhakar. My motivation lies in emulating the three of you!!

I initially started it as a food blog... but eventually ended up writing about other stuff.... hence the title :P
